The first 5 townships were settled by the First Battalion of the Royal York Regiment. The Germans settled in Osnabruck, Williamsburg, and Matilda townships.
The German Lutherans settled 20 June 1784 in Dundas County which was divided into 4 townships - - Williamsburg and Matilda along the front, and Mountain and Winchester in the back. Today Williamsburg and Matilda Townships are one, known as South Dundas
Dundas County was named after Henry Dundas, Viscount Melville.
The records are divided by the Township to which they pertain.
